Why Marketing Matters

A beautiful website only works if people actually see it. Marketing is how you guide the right people to your business, build trust, and encourage them to take action, whether that’s buying a product, subscribing to your list, or booking your service. Squarespace makes it easy by giving you everything you need in one place: SEO tools, email marketing, announcement bars, and pop-ups that convert.

Search & SEO Tools (Now with AI Optimization)

Every Squarespace site comes equipped with industry-leading SEO and AIO (AI Optimization) tools. Optimizing your site for both traditional search engines like Google and modern AI search tools like ChatGPT helps your content get discovered across platforms.

Here’s how Squarespace helps:

  • SEO Titles + Meta Descriptions
Go to the ⚙️ Page Settings for any page to add titles and meta descriptions. These are what show up in Google results and should be clear, specific, and keyword-friendly.

  • Headings & Page Structure
Use H1 for your main headline and H2s or H3s for subheadings. This helps search engines understand how your content is organized.

  • SEO-Friendly URLs
Short and relevant URLs perform better. Instead of /page-1, use something like /services/branding. You can update these under ⚙️ Page Settings → URL Slug.

  • Image Alt Text
Every image block in Squarespace has a field for Alt Text. This helps with accessibility and allows search engines to understand what’s in your images.

  • Keyword-Rich Copy
Write clearly and naturally using phrases your ideal client would search for. Don’t stuff keywords, just focus on what people are actually looking for.

  • AI Tools + Search Appearance
Squarespace’s new Search Appearance tool lets you control how your content is previewed across platforms, including search engines and AI tools. You can also connect Google Search Console to help your site get indexed, and update your Social Sharing Logo to control how your site looks when links are shared.

All of this lives in Settings → Marketing.

Email Marketing (Email Campaigns)

Email is still one of the most powerful ways to connect with your audience, and Squarespace lets you do it without leaving your website.

Templates for Every Situation

Choose from ready-made templates for promotions, seasonal updates, content sharing, welcome messages, product announcements, thank-you notes, and more.

Automation That Works for You

Set up automated emails triggered by: New purchases, Newsletter signups, Form submissions, Member onboarding, First-time customers, Lapsed customers or subscribers, Product or service recommendations.

These automations are ideal for welcoming new clients, following up, and building long-term relationships without manual work.

Why It Matters

Email keeps your business top-of-mind and helps move potential customers from curious to committed. Whether you’re educating, thanking, or selling, a well-timed email builds trust and drives results.

Manage this under Main Menu → Email Campaigns.

Announcement Bar

This is the colored strip that appears at the top of your website. It’s great for:

  • Flash sales

  • Holiday hours

  • Lead magnets

  • Limited-time offers

  • Quick links to new pages or products

Update it under Pages → Marketing Tools (at the bottom) → Announcement Bar.

Promotional Pop-Ups

Pop-ups are an easy way to capture attention without changing your entire layout. You can:

  • Offer a discount in exchange for an email

  • Announce something important when someone scrolls

  • Deliver a freebie after a set time on page

They work great for growing your list or increasing urgency. Customize timing, triggers, and design in Marketing → Promotional Pop-Up.

Social Media Integration

Squarespace makes it easy to connect your social accounts and drive traffic between platforms.

  • Add social icons to headers, footers, and site sections

  • Auto-post blog entries to platforms like Facebook or X

  • Share pages with branded previews using your Social Sharing Logo

Set this up in Settings → Third Party Tools → Connected Accounts or update urls in the Social Links block.

brightness_alert Pro Tip:

Try to write one new blog post each month. It shows Google your site is active, which helps more people find you.

Also ask other businesses to mention your website on their site, and do the same for them. When websites talk about each other, Google sees that as a sign of trust and will show your site more often.
