Why Images and Videos Matter
Visuals are what bring your site to life. They help visitors connect with your brand, see your products, or just get a feel for who you are. And keeping them fresh helps your site feel current.
How to Add or Change an Image
Step 1: Enter Edit Mode
Click Edit on the page where you want to work. Make sure you’re in the right section—some sections, like auto layouts, don’t allow image blocks.
Step 2: Find the Image You Want to Update
If it’s an image block, hover over it and click the ✏️ pencil icon
If it’s a background image (like a banner), hover near the top of the section and click the ⚙️ gear icon to open the section settings
Step 3: Upload or Replace
Click Replace or Add Image. You can upload from your computer or use a previously uploaded image from your library.
Step 4: Adjust Settings (Optional)
Choose how the image fits or crops under the Design tab
Add a clickthrough link if you want the image to go somewhere
Set the file name and alt text for accessibility and SEO
How to Add a Video
Use a Video Block
Drag a Video Block into your section (or edit an existing one)
Paste in a YouTube or Vimeo link
Squarespace will auto-generate a thumbnail and video player
Add Video as a Section Background
In some banner or image sections, you can paste a video URL in the Background tab of section settings
This creates a video background (great for high-impact moments)
⚠️ Auto Layout Sections
You can’t drag in blocks or click images here. To update content, click the gear icon on the section and make edits there.
